Phillies and Aaron Nola Agree to 7-Year Deal
Millionaire Contract
Nola Signs with Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies and starting pitcher Aaron Nola have agreed to a seven-year, $172 million contract extension, the team announced Tuesday. The deal includes a full no-trade clause and a signing bonus of $20 million. Nola was set to become a free agent after the 2023 season. The deal is the largest contract in Phillies history, surpassing the $130 million extension given to Bryce Harper in 2019.
Nola, 29, has been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball over the past few seasons. He has a career record of 75-55 with a 3.44 ERA and 1,092 strikeouts. He was an All-Star in 2018 and finished seventh in the NL Cy Young Award voting that year.
The Phillies are hoping that Nola can continue to be a key part of their rotation for years to come. The team has struggled in recent years, but they believe that Nola can help them return to contention.
