Biden Warns of Threats to American Democracy

Highlights of the President's Speech

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Joe Biden delivered a powerful and historic address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, outlining his vision for the nation and warning of the threats facing American democracy.

In his prime-time speech, broadcast live from the Capitol, Biden spoke at length about the challenges facing the country, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the economic crisis, and the threats to democracy from within and outside the United States.

"Democracy," Biden said, "is not a spectator sport. It requires every one of us to engage. It requires us to be active participants in our government."

Biden highlighted the progress made by his administration in fighting the pandemic and stimulating the economy, but he also acknowledged the challenges that remain.

"We have more work to do," he said. "We have to beat this virus. We have to build back our economy better than it was before the pandemic."

Biden also addressed the issue of racial injustice, calling for police reform and an end to systemic racism in America.

"We must finish the work of racial justice," he said. "We must root out systemic racism from our laws, our institutions, and our hearts."

The President concluded his speech by calling for unity and a renewed commitment to democracy.

"This is our moment to rise to the occasion," he said. "This is our moment to prove that democracy is still the best way forward."
